John McCarthy—San Francisco, CA, USA

John McCarthy has been directly involved in the national security, law enforcement and compliance fields for more than two decades. Throughout his career, he has been fortunate to contribute to teams of professionals that seek to build programs that ensure risk management objectives are achieved while supporting a diverse set of business objectives and missions.

McCarthy is currently a chief compliance officer at Airbnb Payments. With staff in San Francisco, Portland and Dublin, Ireland, McCarthy and his team focus on finding best-of-breed compliance programs for the hospitality startup. Prior to joining Airbnb, McCarthy was the executive vice president at Citigroup and managed global anti-money laundering (AML) operations standards and training. McCarthy also managed Latin American AML operations at Citigroup and was senior vice president and director of financial intelligence at Union Bank, in San Francisco, California.

Moreover, McCarthy holds a master’s in organizational leadership from Gonzaga University. He was one of the founding members of the ACAMS Northern California Chapter and is a member of Business Executives for National Security. In addition, McCarthy is actively involved in veteran causes and is a proud graduate of the United States Army Infantry School and John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School.
