Looking Ahead at Europe in 2018

Editor’s note: European Connect is a section in the ACAMS Today magazine that will update members on ACAMS news and activities in Europe.

I am proud that at ACAMS we build relationships. We build relationships between people, organizations and countries, and as a membership and training organization, we teach people how to form a relationship between data and behavior in order to help them detect and prevent financial crime.

As we look forward to 2018, there is a lot to be excited about at ACAMS Europe.

CAMS in German

I am so pleased to announce that CAMS, the gold standard in anti-money laundering (AML) certifications, is now available in German! In addition to our brand new training partnership with the prestigious Frankfurt School of Finance and Management, ACAMS will continue to be a valuable partner for DACH-based organizations looking to train and certify their local staff in detecting and preventing financial crime.

Chapters

We recently celebrated the launch of the ACAMS Baltics Chapter (our eighth in Europe) with a gala networking event in Riga, Latvia. Our fantastic new Baltics Chapter Board are already planning follow-up events in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania to provide a forum for local AML and counter-terrorist financing professionals to grow their knowledge and network in a way that transcends organizations, sectors and even (in a chapter spanning three countries) home nations.

This new chapter builds on our expanded presence in the region. We are delighted that our training partner, the Riga Business School, celebrated its first CAMS graduates in October.

Join Us in Amsterdam!

As you might already be aware, the ACAMS 14th Annual AML & Financial Crime Conference—Europe will take place in Amsterdam in late May 2018. All of the details for this comprehensive and practical AML and financial crime conference in Europe can be found at www.acamsconferences.org/europe. Make sure you are on our mailing list (you can sign up on that same page), so that you can receive all of the updates for the conference over the next few months.

Each year at the European Conference, chapter board representatives gather for a ‘Chatham House’ style meeting. Everyone shares their successes and challenges, and the discussions spotlight both common and unique issues each jurisdiction is facing. The sharing of this information helps us to understand how we can best support our members, and which topics to include in our live programming.

Speaking of European events, we recently hosted the ACAMS Anti-Financial Crime Symposium in Ireland and the Nordics, and we are looking forward to our second Cyprus Symposium on February 7, 2018 in Nicosia and I hope you will be reading this update in your ACAMS Today magazine at the event. In addition, for each of these events we post highlights on our ACAMS LinkedIn and Facebook pages and ACAMSToday.org.

As always, if you have any questions about the support that ACAMS Europe can provide you or your team, do not hesitate to contact us at europe@acams.org or via phone at +44 20 3755 7400.

We are here to help.
