Tanya C. McCartney, CAMS—Nassau, Bahamas

Tanya McCartney is a respected leading voice in the development of a strategic plan for the economic sustainability of the Bahamian financial services sector. She has been recognized as an important contributor who facilitates collaboration between the private sector and policymakers regarding global regulatory initiatives that impact the sector.

McCartney is an accomplished barrister, certified anti-money laundering specialist and chartered banker. Since 2016, she has served as the CEO and executive director of The Bahamas Financial Services Board. She is the leading advocate for banks and trust companies, insurance, accounting and legal firms, asset managers, along with securities and broker dealer firms.

McCartney’s distinguished career was strengthened during her leadership tenure from 2008-2016 as the managing director of Royal Bank of Canada (RBC), RBC FINCO and as RBC’s Caribbean regional compliance manager from 2006-2008 with responsibilities for the Bahamas, Cayman Islands, Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean countries. Her commitment to ensuring compliance and adherence to best practices within the financial services industry has afforded her an active role in drafting legislation and guidelines to articulate the Bahamas’ commitment as a transparent and compliant jurisdiction. Her skills are showcased through visionary leadership and expertise in legal and compliance risk management, leadership and corporate governance, along with banking and business development.

McCartney’s commitment to the national development of the Bahamas was recognized through receiving a Bahamas
Icon Award for Financial Services
  in 2018 and her appointment to the Senate of The Commonwealth of The Bahamas in 2005 for a five-year period. She currently serves as a part-time lecturer at the School of Business at the University of The Bahamas and chairs the Anglican Diocesan Finance Committee.
