John Atkinson, CAMS: The Evolution of AML

In this segment of AML Now, ACAMS Executive Vice President, John Byrne sits down with John Atkinson, who recently retired from Protiviti and previously worked for the Atlanta Federal Reserve. Atkinson shares his career insight on AML, compliance challenges and what he has learned over the past 37 years in the financial sector.

John Atkinson was the former director at Protiviti in the firm's Regulatory Risk Consulting practice. Atkinson joined Protiviti in June 2008 after a 30-year career at the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, where he had oversight and management responsibilities at the official level for numerous bank supervision functions, including anti-money laundering, enforcement, fiduciary risk, international bank supervision, operations risk, consumer compliance, and policy development. At Protiviti, Atkinson consulted with a broad array of financial institution clients on regulatory and risk management issues, with an emphasis on anti-money laundering risk management. Atkinson has been a regular speaker for many years at professional conferences and events for industry, regulatory, and law enforcement groups on both a national and international basis. He has a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Emory University, Atlanta, Georgia, and attended the Executive Development Program at the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University, Chicago, Illinois.
