The Richmond Chapter celebrated its one year anniversary with a special learning event at the Federal Reserve Bank in Richmond. The event, which coincided with the 10-year anniversary of 9/11 was well attended and featured a presentation by ACAMS executive vice president John Byrne. John, a seasoned attorney and former lobbyist discussed financial lessons learned since 09/11. He also gave attendees a glimpse of government and private sector discussions immediately following the events of 9/11 and the sense of urgency surrounding decision making and implementation of the USA PATRIOT Act. John acknowledged the intense regulatory scrutiny since 9/11 and highlighted the role of ACAMS in helping shape the future of our industry. In closing he encouraged participants to monitor relevant regulations and to bookmark the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) web site which contains research and whitepapers.
Charlie George, our membership chair, advised attendees to invest in their careers by joining ACAMS National and the Richmond Chapter. Charlie highlighted upcoming chapter events and encouraged attendees to join or renew their memberships soon, to take advantage of special pricing.
