The ACAMS Southern California (SoCal) Chapter has supported a local not-for-profit organization known as the Coalition to Abolish Slavery & Trafficking (CAST) for two years. CAST was established 15 years ago and their mission is to help assist persons who were trafficked and to help end all human rights violations.
At the end of 2013, the SoCal Chapter hosted a learning event followed by a holiday dinner reception for their chapter members. At this event, they selected a charity to support, and in the spirit of giving, they asked members to donate to the selected charity and the chapter matched the collected funds. This past December, their chapter collected $400 from the holiday reception and their chapter matched the collected funds to present a total of $800 to CAST.
Handwritten note from CAST thanking the SoCal Chapter for their support
Most recent, the SoCal Chapter held a learning event on March 26, 2014 focusing on human trafficking. The event was well attended by over 70 people. The speaker panel consisted of law enforcement from the Los Angeles Police Department, Homeland Security Investigations and a representative from CAST to talk about the survivors of human trafficking.
CAST offers free services, so any contributions or donations will help survivors of modern-day slavery rebuild their lives. If you would like to contribute to CAST in the fight against human trafficking, there are five things you can do: donate, become a volunteer, organize a fund raising event, start a chain store reaction and report a crime.
If you suspect a case of human trafficking, do not put yourself and others in danger by intervening on the spot. Call the professionals!
