ACAMS New York Chapter 2019 Wrap-Up

The Association of Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialists (ACAMS) New York Chapter wrapped up 2019 as an impressive year of learning and networking events! During the fourth quarter, approximately 550 anti-money laundering (AML) and financial crime professionals attended three learning and networking events.

As a result of feedback provided in post-event surveys, the chapter hosted its member-requested panel New AML Typologies  in October, sponsored by Case Western Reserve University School of Law Financial Integrity Institute. Panelists from PARC Solutions, Zeichner Ellman & Kraus, and DML Associates defined the meaning of AML typologies for attendees and discussed best practices for deploying typologies effective in detecting activity that may be indicative of criminal behaviors.

In November, the chapter held its fourth annual learning event Current Events and Hot Topics in Sanctions, co-hosted by Refinitiv and World-Check. Nearly 200 attendees listened as speakers from Oliver Wyman, Refinitiv and PayPal discussed the latest events and topics in economic sanctions, including recent developments in Turkey, Venezuela and Iran.

The chapter concluded its year with its annual holiday party attended by special guest Rohit Sharma, ACAMS president and managing director. Guests celebrated a robust year and networked with industry peers while enjoying food and drink at Stout NYC.

During a busy and educational year, the ACAMS New York Chapter hosted 14 events with nearly 2,600 total attendees on topics ranging across the financial crime sector including fintech, sanctions, risk assessments, trade-based money laundering, fintech, know your customer and human trafficking. The chapter looks forward to an exciting 2020!
