Stephen Gray is currently an anti-money laundering (AML) and financial crime compliance manager with Elavon Financial Services (a U.S. Bank Company) in their European HQ in Dublin. With almost 20 years of experience in the Irish financial services sector, Gray initially worked in operations and IT in retail banking and global banking. Gray’s first foray into AML was in 2005 when he joined Deutsche Bank’s Global Banking business, where he migrated a customer due diligence (CDD) function from Frankfurt and London to Dublin, he also managed the changed process and successfully migrated the new process to Bangalore. In 2008, he joined GE Money’s Irish consumer finance business as a compliance officer, where he weathered the storm of the economic downturn and enjoyed all the regulatory changes and challenges that occurred during this period. Gray moved with GE’s Irish portfolio to Pepper Asset Servicing in Dublin when GE sold the business line.
Throughout his career, Gray has implemented many AML system enhancements into the businesses that he supported; including two customer relationship management (CRM) tools (with a focus on CDD components), three sanctions screening tools and a transaction monitoring solution. Having recently retired as a volunteer firefighter for 12 years, he now has a little more time on his hands and is actively engaging with other like-minded AML professionals in Ireland with the intention of establishing the ACAMS Ireland Chapter this year.
